Question # 133: During my lessons this often happens: I have a nice rhythmical canter to a line, and the second to last stride PJ lengthens and then we get a chip.

I am trying to be more light with my hands, so he is happier, but he doesn't listen to my soft half halts. What can I do to stop him from lengthening 2 to 3 strides out? I feel like he is charging past the distance, and if we just stayed in the same canter we'd get there nicely instead of having a chip. Do I just need to keep half halting to the base like I used to? I hate to feel like I am pick, pick, picking... (Vita)
