Question # 35: I cannot seem to keep my horse round...or even just soft... in my down transitions. He really goes against my hand. It's been a comment on some of my dressage tests. Any suggestions? (Vita)

You are not alone...this is a really common problem! Transitions (both up and down) really test the balance of the horse, and the quality of the connection. Downward transitions can be especially challenging, as riders often pull on the reins or get tight in their arms unconsciously when they are asking for the transition. Which will cause many horses to go against the hand and fall on the forehand.
