Lauren Salas grew up riding classical dressage and paved a career for herself in the hunter jumper arena before making her way into the wonderful world of Eventing. Currently occupied as a ranch manager, overseeing a herd of cattle 100 strong, her horses get a breadth of knowledge between jump schools and conditioning rides, roping, sorting, and riding fence lines. An avid athlete and fitness trainer, Lauren loves to bring her many passions together for the benefit of both the horse and the rider. Full of life, energy, and drive, she strives to bring knowledgeable, thought provoking, relatable, and fun topics to the table.

When it comes to the fundamentals of riding and helping our horses perform at the peak of their potential, it almost always boils down to the physics and biomechanics of horse and rider.

At the most basic level, a horse and a rider pair is comprised of two things: the horse (the object exerting motion), and the rider (the one maintaining, or attempting to maintain, equilibrium with the object in motion). In an ideal world the rider is in complete control, has absolute synchronicity with the horses’ motions, and need not work overbearingly to maintain this equilibrium. This scenario, though attainable, takes years of development and training on behalf of both parties. Breaking it down into its simplest form, however, can take a lot of the guesswork out of the question "where should my body be in relation to my horse?" The hunter division; For some, it's akin to pulling teeth, for others it's like watching fine ballet. I have always laid somewhere in the middle. Growing up around the hunter-jumper circuit I can appreciate a nicely turned out hunter and enjoy watching beautiful rounds, but if you ask me what makes my heart go pitter-patter I’ll be the first to quote Ricky Bobby, “I wanna go fast.” (Click on Blog Title above (in blue) to read full entry)

European Adventure!

My adventure through Europe was nothing short of extraordinary. The sights, the tastes, the culture, and, of course, the horses were all incredible, and traveling with locals meant it wasn’t any sort of typical tourist vacation. For two whole weeks I immersed myself in an atmosphere, not to mention language, which was completely foreign to me- and I loved every second. I Think I Missed the Course Walk...

It took me a while to brew up the right ingredients for my first blog entry. Should I compose a sweet icebreaker - get to know you - “hello my name is Lauren and I love horses” sort of piece, delve straight into the matter of my day-to-day trials and tribulations with the equine species, or touch on a bit of it all? Perhaps I should set the stage so that my stories have something concrete to land upon as I express in literary fashion the goings-on of my life with horses, knowledge gathered from the past, and all of the experiences that will come henceforth.
